How it came to pass

So this is how it happened....my wife's Grandfather, who will be called "Grandpa" was the Ohio owner of the fine and becoming more rare 1963 Airstream Bambi. Grandpa had always owned airstreams, he was an adventurous outdoors man who became infatuated with the shiny facade of the airstream. It has been said that at times he could be found watching television in his Bambi parked at his house on a TV much smaller than the TV that could be found just yards away inside the house.

Late in the summer of 2005 the Bambi and Grandpa had a falling out. During their usual preparations for the Labor Day weekend, Grandpa was moving the Bambi in the driveway so that the Curb side was accessible to load up the supplies. During the maneuvering, somehow, the ball (part of the hitch) snapped off. From this point on, no one really knows what happened but the result was Grandpa spent a few days in the hospital and the Bambi was left lying on it's curb side like a turtle having been rolled on its back.

While in the hospitol Grandpa decided that he had had enough fun with airstreams and was ready to get rid of the Bambi because at this point the repairs were going to cost way more than it was worth on the market. When this information was delivered to me, without hesitation, I stated I would like to have it. "Yeah, I know it is going to need some work, but hay, I am an engineer, I can figure it out!"

So here we are...Grandpa is no longer with us (and before you ask, no, the falling out with the Bambi didn't do it...he passed from other health issues). He was buried in a silver casket and there was talk about it needing an Airstream logo on it. Before he passed, Grandpa handed the keys for the Bambi over to me in 2006 so that his granddaughter and I could share in the grand adventure of owning an Airstream.

Now all I have to do is get it ready.........!!!!!!!!!

There isn't anything here yet...but in the days and months to come I will be detailing the restoration of a 1963 Airstream Bambi. The events the led to my wife (Sarah) and I owning this piece of American history is a long story and I plan on including it in another post just in case you aren't interested.
